He was reared through the great depression and due to the times was unable to obtain a high school education. A 1951 summary of his own beekeeping experiences are found in this book, "Honey in the Comb", originally self-published by Killion and Son's Apiaries. His father sustained their family employed in the coal mines, where Carl himself would later work. He met and married Elizabeth Hayes and began a family, but unable to make an adequate living at that time with just beekeeping he stayed with mining until 1935 when a mine accident caused him to re-think mine labor. Especially when the heroine almost lets the villain fool her a second time when she naively believes he's stowed her stolen jewels at a different locale and thinks it's a great idea to get into a carriage with him.ugh. The aspect of this book in comparison with the countless others that claim to have the secrets of staying young is the intense research the author has done to provide solid backup for everything she says. Again, I loved this book!. The romance story was sweet and I liked how the ending had closure.Overall, I loved Hope At Dawn. highly recommend this.. He had bid his farewell to his young pregnant wife Madeleine who boarded a lifeboat, and told he could not accompany her, he stayed on board the sinking ship, possibly listening to Jock and his fellow musicians. I really felt for the characters and all they had to go through - especially Friedrick. This book is great but unfortunately it was not it its original wrapping and had dirt and scuf
